Indonesia Secures Crude Oil Supply from Russia: How Much?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the government has secured a crude oil supply from Russia. This was disclosed by Bahlil following a limited meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026). As is known, Bahlil had held a face-to-face meeting with Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev on Tuesday (15/4/2026). This meeting was a follow-up to high-level discussions between President Prabowo and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin the day before. Not only securing the crude oil supply, according to him, the outcome of the meeting also includes a commitment from the Russian side to build infrastructure in Indonesia to enhance energy resilience. “Alhamdulillah, yesterday, following the President’s directive, I met with the Energy Minister and the Special Envoy from President Putin, and the news is quite encouraging that we will receive crude oil supplies from Russia, and the Russian side is also ready to build several important infrastructures to increase our national reserves and energy resilience,” said Bahlil, after the meeting at the Palace on Thursday (16/4/2026). The government is also continuing intensive communication regarding LPG supplies for Indonesia from Russia. As is known, Indonesia imports around 7 million tonnes of LPG every year. “In addition, we are also communicating regarding LPG. We know that our LPG imports are around 7 million tonnes every year, and now we are diversifying, and insya Allah we will also receive support, but this still requires effort and communication in two or three stages, but for the crude, I think it’s almost final,” he said. However, Bahlil has not yet disclosed the volume of crude oil to be imported from Russia, as there is an agreement prohibiting discussion of the import amount. But Bahlil emphasised that Indonesia’s crude oil supply until December is assured to be safe. “For crude for one year from this month until December, insya Allah it is already safe. So we don’t need to worry; we just need to increase our refinery production,” he stated.
