Indonesia Secures Australian Support for OECD Accession
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced that Indonesia has secured support from Australia regarding its accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
This support was conveyed by the Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, during a bilateral meeting with Airlangga on the sidelines of the OECD 2026 Ministerial Meeting.
“This meeting was not merely a formal encounter during the OECD 2026 Ministerial Meeting, but rather a reinforcement of the commitment of both nations to continue collaborating in response to global dynamics,” Airlangga stated in a press release in Jakarta on Thursday.
During the meeting, both countries agreed to strengthen economic cooperation and strategic collaboration to face various evolving global challenges. The discussions also addressed issues that had previously arisen regarding Mexico’s position in Indonesia’s accession process. However, it was noted that the matter has been resolved through diplomatic channels and is no longer an obstacle.
In addition to supporting the OECD accession, Indonesia and Australia discussed several strategic economic cooperation agendas. In the critical minerals sector, both nations agreed to synergise their respective strengths, namely Indonesia’s nickel reserves and Australia’s supply and expertise in the field of lithium.
“As a concrete step, Australia will soon provide a prospectus of ‘shovel-ready’ lithium projects to ensure they are accessible to investors,” he added.
