The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) has reported the potential for additional national oil production of up to approximately 1,200 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) from the LLA-5 development well operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ). According to an SKK Migas report, the LLA-5 well was spudded on 27 April 2026 at the Lima Platform using the Rig PV-Drilling II. Drilling operations were completed on 22 June 2026, lasting 67 days. During the process, drilling encountered a problem when equipment became stuck in the well, known as a stuck pipe. This condition forced the operator to retrieve the lost equipment and continue drilling via a sidetrack method, extending the work duration beyond the initial plan. SKK Migas explained that the well was drilled directionally, targeting the LL-30 layer at an interval of 4,745-4,752 ftMD. After drilling was completed, the well underwent a production test and began production on 26 June 2026, with initial output reaching 566 BOPD. The operator is currently carrying out a well clean-up process. Once this stage is complete, production is estimated to increase to around 1,200 BOPD with a water cut of approximately 4% using a gas lift method. If this target is achieved, the LLA-5 well’s production will be roughly four times the initial target of 300 BOPD. In terms of cost, SKK Migas noted that the drilling budget realisation reached approximately 95% of the approved Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) value, which was US$13.38 million. All drilling work was also reported to have been completed without any workplace accidents. SKK Migas hopes the clean-up process will run smoothly so that the LLA-5 well’s production can soon reach the target of around 1,200 BOPD and strengthen the national oil supply.
