Indonesia Safe from Energy Emergency, Bahlil Assures National Supply is Adequate
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that Indonesia is not in an energy emergency situation, even though several countries in Asia have declared emergencies due to the Middle East conflict.
The conflict between the United States (US) and Israel against Iran in the region has disrupted global oil supplies and caused prices to soar.
Bahlil assured that amid the current global turmoil, the national energy supply remains adequate to meet public needs.
“Even though other countries, some in Asia, are starting to enter undesirable conditions, in this case an emergency, I must assure the Indonesian people that our diesel, God willing, we no longer import. So it’s clear,” he said during a working visit in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday (26/3/2026).
He explained that Indonesia still imports around 50 percent of gasoline and 70 percent of liquefied petroleum gas or LPG.
Bahlil said that for these two products, his ministry has sought alternative sources besides Middle Eastern countries.
Therefore, Bahlil emphasised that the public need not worry about energy availability.
However, he still asked the public to use energy wisely given the still volatile global conditions.
“Even though we are in a good condition, I beg for support from all Indonesians. This issue is not just the government’s problem, but everyone’s. I beg, I suggest, that we must use energy wisely,” Bahlil requested.
The Philippine Ministry of Energy has now activated an emergency fund of 20 billion pesos, or approximately Rp 5.61 trillion. This amount is equivalent to 333 million US dollars.
The fund is used to purchase up to 2 million barrels of fuel. The purchase includes refined oil products and LPG.
Meanwhile, a fuel oil crisis is hitting Bangladesh.
