Indonesia, S. Korea to form high-level creative industry committee
The discussion focused on establishing a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee and drafting a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) on creative economy collaboration.
“Indonesia and the Republic of Korea share a common vision of positioning the creative economy as a new engine of economic growth,” Minister Harsya said in a statement.
“South Korea’s remarkable success through the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, serves as both an inspiration and a catalyst for broader collaboration,” he added.
He emphasized that the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations presents significant opportunities to advance co-productions, talent exchanges, digital game development and various technology-driven initiatives.
The ministerial meeting follows a bilateral engagement between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on March 31, 2026, which elevated bilateral relations to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
To realize this commitment, the Creative Economy Ministry is currently drafting a new MoU to serve as the overarching framework for bilateral creative economy cooperation and to facilitate cross-subsector collaborative initiatives.
The MoU will also provide the foundation for establishing the High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee, which will be jointly chaired by the Indonesian Creative Economy Minister and the South Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
“We are accelerating the preparation of this new MoU. Through the establishment of the committee, we hope to translate emerging opportunities into concrete programs that deliver tangible benefits to creative industry stakeholders in both countries,” Harsya noted.
During the meeting, the minister also invited the South Korean government and its creative industry stakeholders to participate in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, scheduled to take place in Jakarta this October.
Initiated by Indonesia, the WCCE is the world’s largest creative economy conference and is expected to serve as a platform for both countries to expand networks and unlock new partnership opportunities.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Yoon Soon-gu welcomed the efforts to bolster cooperation, noting that both nations possess significant potential to expand joint programs.
“We see tremendous opportunities for cooperation with Indonesia, ranging from film and content development to talent and expert training, as well as regular business meetings. We are committed to strengthening collaboration,” the ambassador said.
