Indonesia and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the maritime sector and exploring new collaborative opportunities during bilateral consultations held in Moscow, Russia, on Monday. The maritime consultations were co-led by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and the Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Agency, Nikolai Patrushev.

Both parties discussed bilateral cooperation regarding maritime logistics, shipbuilding, personnel training, and marine resource studies, according to the Russian Embassy in Jakarta. Several Russian companies have expressed interest in establishing joint ventures for shipbuilding and the production of maritime equipment components in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Russian fisheries companies have indicated their readiness to contribute to the sustainable development of Indonesia’s aquaculture sector. This contribution is expected to be realised through the implementation of eco-friendly technologies, capacity building, and the use of digital innovation within the supply chain.

The meeting also addressed potential cooperation in green technology and renewable energy, including the construction of environmentally friendly vessels, energy efficiency, and the use of alternative fuels. Both sides discussed specific proposals aimed at ensuring the concrete implementation of agreements reached between Indonesia and Russia.

To this end, Indonesia and Russia have agreed to form three permanent working groups to deepen the exploration of maritime cooperation. These working groups will focus on shipbuilding and the development of new logistics routes, sustainable development in marine resources and fisheries, and joint scientific research and personnel training.
