Indonesia rejects double standards in advancing global human rights

Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said Indonesia remains committed to strengthening human rights through inclusive and constructive engagement.

“Indonesia consistently rejects the politicization of human rights and approaches that are selective and unbalanced, including those that reflect double standards,” he told ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday.

He noted that such double standards are often reflected in country-specific resolutions under the pretext of human rights enforcement.

Indonesia also called for efforts to advance human rights through respectful dialogue, while supporting each country’s initiatives to strengthen human rights.

He said Indonesia aims to serve as a bridge in strengthening global human rights cooperation through open and inclusive dialogue, not only in its role as UNHRC President but also through its broader foreign policy.

Indonesia will continue to develop bilateral and regional human rights dialogues, he added.

“Indonesia is also actively promoting ASEAN human rights dialogue through the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR),” Mulachela said.

Indonesia chaired the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council from February 23 to March 31, 2026, marking the first time it has led a session since the body was established in 2006.

Under its presidency, Indonesia carries the theme “A Presidency for All,” reflecting its commitment to fostering an inclusive human rights body that bridges differences through constructive dialogue and strengthens cooperation.
