“Tonight (Wednesday, March 25), at 0 a.m., we officially closed Operation Ketupat, as instructed by Polri Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo,” Chief of the Polri Traffic Corps (Korlantas) Inspector Gen. Agus Suryonugroho remarked in Semarang, Central Java.

Speaking early Thursday, he pointed out that Indonesia recorded 270,315 vehicles during the peak of the homecoming flow, the highest number ever registered.

“This figure marks a 4.62 percent increase from the 258,512 vehicles recorded in 2025,” Suryonugroho said.

He underlined that the police maintained smooth traffic despite a surge in vehicles through a range of traffic management measures, most notably a nationwide one-way arrangement along toll roads during peak homecoming and return flows.

“In fact, we also carried out a local one-way scheme, which proved effective in dispersing flows. Through these measures, we managed to control traffic well throughout the homecoming flow,” he added.

Suryonugroho also highlighted improvements in safety, noting that the rate of fatalities in road accidents decreased by 30.89 percent during this year’s Operation Ketupat, while the number of accidents was 5.75 percent lower than the 2025 edition.

The Korlantas chief attributed the favorable trend to the public, praising those who observed traffic laws and regulations during the homecoming season.

He also explained that the end of 13 days of Operation Ketupat 2026 would be followed by intensified routine activities by the police.

In other words, he said personnel would remain stationed along Eid travel routes to maintain security and order in anticipation of the second peak of return flow, expected on March 28 and 29.
