Indonesia Receives 15% Tariff from the US; Can It Still Be Reduced? Airlangga's Answer
Indonesia’s government has confirmed that the export tariff on Indonesian products to the United States is no longer at the 19% level previously agreed in bilateral trade negotiations. Indonesia now faces a 15% tariff. The change came after the United States Supreme Court overturned the reciprocal tariff policy previously enacted by President Donald Trump. So, can the 15% tariff be reduced further?
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the 15% tariff applies for up to 150 days. After that, the government will reassess.
‘The global tariff is 15% for 150 days; after that, we will see,’ Airlangga said on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
However, Airlangga emphasised that Indonesia has secured tariff exemptions or 0% for 1,819 export goods, including textiles, semiconductors and palm oil, cocoa and other agricultural products.
This will deliver tangible benefits for more than 4 million workers in the related sectors.
