Indonesia Reaffirms Commitment to South-South Cooperation and Economic Diplomacy
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has affirmed that Indonesia remains committed to continually strengthening South-South cooperation and reinforcing the country’s economic diplomacy.
“Beyond strengthening development cooperation in various areas, it can also strengthen mutually beneficial economic cooperation with a range of parties,” said Daniel Tumpal Simanjuntak, Director General of Economic Relations and Development Cooperation (HEKSP) at the Foreign Ministry, in Jakarta on Thursday.
Daniel stated that the HEKSP Directorate General was established with the aim of strengthening Indonesia’s economic diplomacy and realising national goals and priorities through the implementation of economic diplomacy and far-reaching development cooperation.
According to him, the HEKSP Directorate General at Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry carries out economic diplomacy and development cooperation through collaboration, synergy, and complementarity with various parties in order to strengthen the national interest and elevate Indonesia’s position as a trusted strategic partner at the global level.
“Moreover, in the current era, everyone knows that diplomacy is a single whole… so that economic diplomacy also aims to strengthen various national interests and government priorities,” Daniel said.
The Directorate General of Economic Relations and Development Cooperation (HEKSP) is a level-one unit of Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry established through Foreign Ministerial Regulation No. 4/2025, and it officially began operating in September 2025.
The HEKSP Directorate General has a mandate to formulate, implement, coordinate, synchronise, and control policy in the fields of foreign economic relations and international development cooperation.
With the establishment of the HEKSP Directorate General, economic diplomacy is seen as increasingly important in supporting national economic growth, strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness, and expanding the benefits of international cooperation for development.
