Indonesia Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateralism and Global Peace at UN General Assembly
Indonesia’s presence at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) serves as a momentum to reaffirm its strong commitment to multilateralism and global peace.
As stated by the Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, to ANTARA on Tuesday, Indonesia’s participation in this annual UN agenda strengthens its role in promoting dialogue, bridging differences, and building consensus amidst various global challenges.
Indonesia will optimise this opportunity to voice the interests of developing nations and reaffirm its commitment to continuing its contributions to world peace, as has been maintained historically.
Indonesia will also pay special attention to the fate of the Palestinian people amidst Zionist military aggression and the obstruction of humanitarian aid caused by Israel’s actions. This includes reaffirming support for the Palestinian struggle and efforts for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, said Nabyl.
Foreign Minister Sugiono is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s national statement during the General Debate session of the UN General Assembly on Saturday night (26/9).
While in New York, Sugiono will attend various high-level and ministerial meetings discussing strategic issues including peace and security, the Palestinian issue, climate change, and multilateralism. One of the earliest agendas attended by Sugiono in New York on Monday was the Ministerial Meeting of the ‘Group of Eight Arab and Islamic Countries’ alongside representatives from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Pakistan.
The 81st Session of the UN General Assembly officially opened in New York on 8 September. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Khalilur Rahman, was elected as the President of the UN General Assembly for this session, succeeding former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
This session carries the theme ‘Revitalising trust, managing transformation: A UN that delivers results for all’. The General Debate session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to take place from 22-26 September and will continue on 28 September.
