Indonesia Ready to Facilitate Green Investment and Integrated Battery Ecosystem Development

The Indonesian government is ready to facilitate green investment, including the acceleration of a 100 GW solar photovoltaic (solar PV) programme, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and the development of an integrated battery ecosystem at the Morowali Green Industrial Park. This was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Shanghai on Saturday (18/7/2026). The meeting addressed a range of strategic issues, from artificial intelligence (AI) governance and expanded trade access to investment and strengthening bilateral economic relations between Indonesia and China. ‘Regarding green investment, Indonesia is ready to facilitate the acceleration of the 100 GW Solar PV programme and battery energy storage systems (BESS), as well as the development of an integrated battery ecosystem at the Morowali Green Industrial Park,’ the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs stated in an official release. On economic and trade matters, the Minister stressed the importance of expanding market access for Indonesian export products. Given that China is Indonesia’s largest trading partner, the government is also pushing to optimise bilateral trade potential by resolving trade barriers and strengthening supply chain cooperation. In the investment sector, he renewed an offer to enhance cooperation on economic zone and industrial estate development through the Two Countries Twin Parks (TCTP) scheme, which involves governments, industrial estates, and businesses from both nations. Through this scheme, the Indonesian government invited leading Chinese companies to take an active role in developing industrial estates with advanced manufacturing and integrated digital economies. Beyond trade and investment, the Minister expressed Indonesia’s support for China’s chairmanship of the APEC 2026 forum in Shenzhen. Indonesia proposed that a bilateral leaders’ meeting be held on the sidelines of the forum, coupled with a business summit to further strengthen economic cooperation and business ties between the two countries. The meeting was part of efforts to reinforce the Indonesia-China strategic economic partnership, including promoting green investment and battery ecosystem development as a focus of the national energy transition.
