Indonesia readies road traffic measures for Eid return surge
While reviewing traffic and transport services at Pulo Gebang Integrated Bus Terminal in East Jakarta early Wednesday, he noted that authorities are prepared to reactivate a national one-way scheme along toll roads to ensure a smooth return flow toward Jakarta and its surroundings.
“We may implement a national one-way arrangement to ease traffic for residents joining the return flow, making sure they arrive at their destinations safely,” Purwagandhi remarked.
He also highlighted the government’s decision to allow a work-from-anywhere (WFA) setting for state workers, aiming to prevent heavy traffic or bottlenecks during projected peak flow dates.
This WFA policy, the minister said, has proven effective in easing traffic along toll roads, with vehicle distribution evidently more even and under control.
Furthermore, he stated the government’s traffic initiatives include implementing an open-close system around toll road rest areas and limiting road access for heavy three-axle vehicles to ensure smooth and safe return trips.
He made the statement alongside Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, who joined the field review to interact with travelers and ensure their comfort.
“Praise be to God, several passengers told us that their trips have been smooth without significant hurdles,” Wijaya said.
He noted that the flow had been overall smooth and under control during the March 24 through 25 period, although minor issues and accidents occurred.
The secretary appreciated the Ministry of Transportation and the National Police (Polri) for their synergy in controlling road traffic during the Eid return flow, meeting the expectations of President Prabowo Subianto.
