Indonesia has registered itself as one of the ten countries with the highest number of ultra-wealthy individuals in Asia. According to the latest data, there are 8,120 Indonesian citizens with wealth exceeding US$10 million, equivalent to more than Rp167 billion. This figure places Indonesia in ninth position across Asia and 21st globally.

The achievement demonstrates that domestic asset accumulation continues to move in a positive direction amid global economic uncertainty. Although Indonesia’s contribution to the total global ultra-wealthy population stands at only around 0.3 per cent, the trend reflects the considerable potential of a continuously expanding domestic market. Economic stability and upper-class growth are the primary driving factors.

At the Asian level, Indonesia sits below a number of countries with established economies such as Japan, India and Hong Kong. However, breaking into the region’s top ten signals a shift in wealth growth centres towards developing nations, including Southeast Asia. This simultaneously strengthens Indonesia’s position as an economic force to be reckoned with.

When converted at an exchange rate of Rp16,778 per US dollar, the US$10 million wealth threshold equates to more than Rp167 billion. This figure illustrates just how high the standard is for the ultra-high-net-worth individual category. It means that individuals in this group possess extremely broad capacity for investment, business expansion and asset diversification.

The phenomenon of a rising number of super-wealthy individuals is also linked to growth in strategic sectors such as technology, finance, commodities and property. Furthermore, the dynamism of the creative economy and digitalisation have opened new opportunities for the emergence of business operators with large valuations. Innovation-based economic transformation has become a key catalyst in the creation of new wealth.

On the other hand, the growth of the ultra-wealthy cohort also presents its own challenges, particularly regarding economic equity. Income inequality and asset distribution remain unresolved issues that must be addressed collectively. The government and industry players need to ensure that wealth growth proceeds hand in hand with improvements to broader public welfare.

Overall, Indonesia’s position on this list serves as a signal of optimism for the future of the national economy. With the right investment strategies, adaptive policies and a conducive business ecosystem, the number of high-asset individuals has the potential to continue growing. This momentum could serve as a strong foundation for Indonesia to expand its influence on the global economic map.
