Indonesia Pushes for Cooperation on Placing Migrant Workers in Greece

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Christina Aryani is working to accelerate cooperation on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Greece through a government-to-government (G to G) scheme to broaden job access for PMI.

In her meeting with the Greek Ambassador to Indonesia, Dimitrios Michalopoulos, in Jakarta on Monday (20/4), Christina followed up on the results of her visit to Greece in November 2025 regarding job opportunities for PMI in various sectors in Greece.

Christina noted that the current need for PMI in Greece is quite substantial, especially in strategic sectors, one of which is the hospitality industry, which could provide concrete opportunities for the legal placement of migrant workers.

“Therefore, we are encouraging the process of discussing the G to G MoU (memorandum of understanding) to begin as soon as possible. We also request the Ambassador’s support to convey this to the relevant parties in Greece,” said Christina in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The P2MI Ministry continues to commit to ensuring that every overseas job opportunity runs safely, in a structured manner, and provides maximum protection for prospective PMI.

“This cooperation is expected to become one of the concrete entry points for Indonesian workers to pursue careers abroad in a legal and professional manner,” said Christina.

During her visit to Greece at the end of November 2025, Christina Aryani also met with the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum of Greece, Sevi Voulodaki, as well as several placement agencies and employers of PMI to discuss opportunities for placing workers from Indonesia in that country.
