Indonesia Proposes Five Concrete Steps on Jerusalem and Palestine at Jordan Meeting

Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir attended a meeting in Jordan to discuss the status of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl stated that the meeting strengthened the response to various violations committed by Israel in Palestine, including those related to the status quo of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa. The meeting was attended by officials from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

During the meeting, Arrmanatha strongly condemned the violence by Israeli citizens and Israel’s violations of international law in Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, and the West Bank. He stressed that such actions must not be allowed or normalised.

Indonesia proposed five concrete steps in response to the Palestinian issue, reflecting President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to making Palestine a priority of the nation’s foreign policy. The first step involves building a strategy based on unity. The second is taking measures to uphold international law and the rulings of the International Court of Justice. The third step calls for expanding international recognition of Palestine. The fourth focuses on strengthening efforts to protect the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The fifth step is supporting the reconstruction of Gaza, Palestinian unity, and the work of UNRWA.

The meeting produced a joint statement that underscored these points and rejected unilateral actions, such as the relocation of diplomatic missions to Jerusalem, which violate international law. Indonesia’s participation was described as a firm national commitment to continue fighting for Palestinian independence, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to promote a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
