Indonesia Procures 12 Leonardo M-346 F Block 20 Trainer Jets from Italy
JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Defence has officially announced the procurement of 12 Leonardo M-346 F Block 20 light multirole combat aircraft. The purchase is intended to support the operational readiness of the latest generation of fighter jets as well as the training of Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) pilots.
The cooperation forms part of the national programme to modernise primary defence equipment. The Leonardo M-346 jet is expected to become the backbone of TNI AU pilot training, while also accelerating the transition towards operating the latest generation of fighter aircraft. Under the contract, delivery of the 12 M-346 F units to Indonesia is scheduled for 2030.
“This trainer platform will be an important bridge for young TNI AU pilots to master the next generation of air combat systems,” Leonardo wrote in its press statement, quoted on Friday (24/7/2026).
The contract signing took place at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7), witnessed directly by President Prabowo Subianto, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and TNI AU Chief of Staff Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono.
