Indonesia prioritises data protection in digital investment drive

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria has underscored Indonesia’s openness to global digital investment while maintaining strict boundaries regarding personal data protection.”Indonesia is safe for business innovation, providing the public with the assurance that their personal data is protected and their privacy respected,” he stated in a press release confirmed on Thursday.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia and representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the office of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Patria asserted that Indonesia is currently at a strategic turning point in the global digital economy.

The Indonesian government continues to enhance infrastructure and connectivity across all regions. As of the end of 2025, Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to approach US$100 billion, a growth driven by video-based commerce and digital financial services.

Furthermore, the government also ensures that the investment climate is built on clear and predictable regulations.

As part of its commitment to prioritizing data protection, the government has enacted Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) as the primary framework for data security.

Online child protection efforts are also being strengthened through Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas), alongside collaborations with tech platforms, educational institutions, and the public to enhance digital literacy.

“Indonesia is open for business, but more importantly, we are open to sustainable partnerships that are oriented toward talent development and ethical innovation,” the deputy minister remarked.
