Indonesia Prepares Roadmap for Cooperation with Belarus
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Turchin on Friday, 15 May 2026, in Minsk, Belarus. The meeting discussed strengthening trade and economic cooperation, as well as expanding partnerships in various priority sectors.
Airlangga warmly welcomed the planned state visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Indonesia in early July 2026. “Indonesia is also ready to welcome a delegation of Belarusian business representatives to Indonesia as part of the Belarusian President’s visit,” said Airlangga in a written statement on Friday, 15 May 2026.
He said that preparations for the visit are underway, including the finalisation of several important matters that are expected to be completed during the visit, especially the roadmap for cooperation between Belarus and Indonesia.
According to Airlangga, Belarus holds a significant position in supporting Indonesia’s industrialisation agenda, food security, and market diversification. Belarus has a strong manufacturing industry base, with the manufacturing sector contributing approximately 20.3 per cent to the national gross domestic product in 2024.
Airlangga mentioned that Belarus has advantages in the development of agro-industry and agricultural mechanisation, which supports national food security, including a food self-sufficiency rate of around 96 per cent. With Belarus’s experience and expertise in agricultural technology, this cooperation is expected to improve the modernisation of Indonesia’s agricultural sector and accelerate the achievement of national food security.
Alexander Turchin expressed Belarus’s commitment to continuing to strengthen economic partnerships with Indonesia and to support the opening of the Indonesian Embassy in Minsk to facilitate relations between the two countries.
The two countries also discussed the Indonesia-Eurasia Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA), which was signed on 21 December 2025 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Indonesia, said Airlangga, believes that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to continue strengthening economic cooperation and promoting open, inclusive and mutually beneficial trade partnerships.
