Indonesia prepares 1,000 Balinese workers for Bulgaria placement
“Bulgaria is one of the countries that we have designated as a migrant worker placement destination following assessments. Today, we are sending off 1,000 prospective migrant workers who will undergo predeparture orientation,” he remarked in Denpasar City, Bali.
Mukhtarudin explained that the P2MI Ministry declared Bulgaria a suitable destination based on its relatively strong worker protection and social security system, competitive wages, and stable security conditions.
He added that the prospective Balinese migrant workers—scheduled to depart gradually starting April 9—had spent six to twelve months training in hospitality to meet professional standards in the Eastern European country.
The minister underscored that Indonesia is focusing on deploying migrant workers to the formal sector, while maintaining a moratorium on the placement of domestic helpers abroad.
“We will continue to increase the deployments of skilled and competent migrant workers to seize wide opportunities in global labor markets,” Mukhtarudin affirmed.
Addressing the workers, he encouraged them to build networks with local communities in Bulgaria to open future business opportunities upon returning to Indonesia.
“I want you to work well while upholding responsibilities, rules, discipline, and integrity,” the minister said, underscoring the importance of engaging in positive activities for self-development.
Furthermore, he advised workers to report employment issues through official channels rather than social media, assuring them that the government is “ready to handle reports.”
Mukhtarudin reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive protection for migrant workers throughout the entire process, from departure to return.
“No need for concerns; you can focus on your jobs because the state will always be present for you wherever you work,” he told the audience.
In addition, he said that Indonesia is targeting the deployment of 5,000 workers to Bulgaria by 2027, while continuing to explore additional destination countries.
