Indonesia Postpones D8 Summit Amid Unresolved Middle East Conflict
JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has postponed the Developing Eight (D8) summit, a multilateral economic cooperation forum of eight developing nations.
Tri Tharyat, Director-General of Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the postponement was due to ongoing escalation in the Middle East that has yet to subside.
“Last night, the Foreign Minister signed a letter to partner nations informing them of the postponement of the D8 summit and all related activities,” Tri said during a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.
The summit was to have been preceded by a ministerial-level conference on foreign affairs on 14 April and a commissioner-level meeting on 12–13 March.
Tri stated that all member nations have received notification of the postponement and understand Indonesia’s decision.
“The new date will be discussed further at an appropriate time. For now, the situation in the Middle East remains fluid,” he said.
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the D8 summit would be held in Jakarta.
“The venue is planned to be in Jakarta. We are looking for a representative location,” said Sugiono at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.
Indonesia is also finalising preparations for the D8 forum to ensure that the substance of the meeting produces concrete agreements.
The D8 summit was originally planned to commence in April 2026.
Beyond substantive matters, Sugiono noted that the technical aspects of organising the summit are still being prepared.
“We are developing the substance. The key objective is to make this summit concrete in nature, with tangible results,” said Sugiono.
