Indonesia has significant potential in the crypto industry.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tokocrypto CEO Clavin Kizana said Indonesia’s crypto industry is in a more mature phase to become one of the crypto industry hubs in Southeast Asia.

Growth in user numbers, enhanced oversight, and a more structured ecosystem are key foundations for the future of the national crypto asset industry.

“Indonesia has significant potential in the crypto industry. We’re not just talking about the growth in investor numbers, but also how the ecosystem is developing into a healthier, more transparent, and sustainable one. With a large digital population and clearer regulatory support, Indonesia has the opportunity to become one of the growth hubs for digital assets in Southeast Asia,” Calvin stated in Jakarta on Friday.

Crypto asset industry continues to show significant growth globally and regionally. Amid rising digital asset adoption across countries, Indonesia is seen as having a strong opportunity to strengthen its position as a major crypto market in Southeast Asia.

According to CoinGecko’s report, crypto is now legally recognised in 119 countries and four British Overseas Territories. Of these, 62 nations have comprehensive regulatory frameworks in place.

This underscores crypto’s growing recognition as part of the global digital finance ecosystem.

In Southeast Asia, interest in crypto is still dominated by Singapore and the Philippines. However, Indonesia remains a key market in the region due to its large population, rising digital literacy, and growing public interest in digital assets.

This is reflected in data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), which recorded 21.37 million crypto asset consumer accounts in Indonesia as of March 2026 — a 1.43% increase from the previous month’s 21.07 million. Crypto transaction value in March 2026 reached Rp22.24 trillion, indicating strong public interest in digital assets despite the dynamic global crypto market.

Calvin added that crypto industry growth must be matched with improved literacy and consumer protection. He stressed education is crucial for the public to understand crypto assets wisely, including risks, technology, and benefits within the digital finance ecosystem.

“Moving forward, the industry’s main challenge is not just driving adoption but ensuring it happens responsibly. Literacy, security, and regulatory compliance must be shared priorities. Tokocrypto is committed to supporting Indonesia’s crypto industry development through education, product innovation, and collaboration with stakeholders,” Calvin said.

Globally, CoinGecko noted most countries legalising crypto are developing nations in Asia and Africa. This shows crypto’s growing relevance in emerging markets, particularly as part of digital transformation and expanding access to technology-based financial products.

However, crypto industry development still requires robust governance. With evolving regulations, industry players are expected to build safer, more transparent ecosystems that add value for society.

Calvin believes Indonesia has strong foundations to boost competitiveness in the digital asset industry. A combination of a large user base, strengthening regulations, technological innovation, and collaboration between regulators and industry players are key to sustainable national crypto growth.

“If built with the right approach, crypto can be a vital part of Indonesia’s digital economy. The focus should not just be on transactions but also on using blockchain technology to create efficiency, transparency, and new opportunities for society,” Calvin concluded.
