Indonesia-PNG to reopen border post

JAYAPURA, Papua: A command post on the border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) will soon be reopened after it was closed due to rising tension in that area.

Head of the Papua bureau for border cooperation Suryanto Sriwardojo confirmed on Sunday that the reopening of the command post was designed to monitor the activities of people from both countries.

The command post is located between the village of Skouw Sae in Muara Tami district, Jayapura, and the village of Wutung in Sandaun province, PNG.

Suryanto said the closing of the command post had prevented people living on the two sides from interacting with one another. -- Antara
