Indonesia Plans to Export 3.4 GW of Electricity to Singapore via Danantara

Indonesia is advancing plans to export up to 3.4 gigawatts of electricity to Singapore, with the initial phase of development focused on power plants in the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region. Minister of Investment and Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani stated that the state-owned investment body Danantara will act as the developer, partnering with Singaporean firms Keppel Electric, Sembcorp Industries, and Singapore Energy Interconnections as off-takers. The first stage of construction is expected to deliver between 600 megawatts and 1.2 gigawatts of renewable energy.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that a memorandum of understanding covering electricity exports, green energy development, and carbon capture and storage was signed with Singapore a year ago. He noted that negotiations are ongoing, with the Indonesian government insisting on a pricing structure that ensures a mutually beneficial outcome. Bahlil indicated that a final agreement is expected soon, once a win-win price is established.
