RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto announced plans to establish a Special Financial Center to attract foreign investment. He said the government is currently evaluating strategic locations for the project.

“We plan to create a Special Financial Center. We are currently looking for a location,” President Prabowo stated during a government workshop at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The president explained that the idea had previously been proposed by former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Bali was among the locations considered as a hub for international investment activities.

President Prabowo said the plan is increasingly relevant amid global geopolitical dynamics, noting that Indonesia has a significant opportunity to attract capital flows shifting away from conflict zones.

He cited the growing number of Russian and Ukrainian citizens settling in Bali since the conflict began as evidence of Indonesia’s appeal as a relatively safe and conducive environment.

“It turns out, where is the money from the Middle East going now? Which country isn’t at war right now? Indonesia is one of the most sought-after destinations,” President Prabowo said.

He emphasized that the current global situation presents not only challenges but also strategic opportunities. The government, he added, must capitalize on this momentum to strengthen the national economy. “The point is, we have immense potential, but this also means, as I’ve said, that we must work harder and more meticulously now,” he said.

The government hopes the plan will accelerate investment and drive national economic growth. President Prabowo said the Special Financial Center is expected to serve as a catalyst for enhancing Indonesia’s competitiveness on the global stage. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
