Indonesia Pioneers First Asia Pacific Regenerative Medicine Congress
Indonesia has become a pioneer by hosting the first Asia Pacific Regenerative Medicine Congress (APREMIC) 2026, held from 2-4 July 2026. The event at the Grand Hyatt hotel in central Jakarta, near the Hotel Indonesia roundabout and Plaza Indonesia, was attended by researchers and experts in regenerative medicine from various countries.
APREMIC 2026 Chairman, Dr dr Cosmos Octavianus Mangunsong, SpM(K), DABRM, stated that Indonesia has a mission to become a nation that can help the world by producing experts in science and medicine, particularly regenerative medicine. “Together, we can achieve the target of healing the world with regenerative medicine. Let us collaborate to make this dream a reality. This Asia Pacific regenerative medicine congress is the first and hopefully can bring benefits to all parties,” Cosmos said in a statement to the media in Jakarta on Saturday.
Cosmos explained that the inaugural APREMIC congress in Indonesia demonstrates to the world that the country can host a congress in the field of stem cell and regenerative medicine. APREMIC 2026 is a collaboration between the government, private sector, and health institutions to realise this international-scale congress. With more than 20 countries participating, it is expected to enhance the image of Indonesian healthcare globally. “The main objective is to introduce Indonesia to the world, showing that we are not inferior, we have experts, and we are also respected abroad as providers of stem cell and regenerative medicine services,” he added.
The President of the Indonesia Society of Regenerative Medicine (INASRM), Dr Dr Dr dr Jonny, Sp PD-KGH, M Kes, MM, DCN, DABRM, FISN, said regenerative medicine not only helps people live longer but enables them to function, be independent, and enjoy a quality life. “That is why we gather here today; there is no distance between the patient and the future, where technology is studied in the laboratory. Innovation becomes beneficial when it reaches patients safely and effectively. This is the spirit of the APREMIC 2026 congress,” Jonny said.
He also invited researchers, academics, regulators, industry players, and leaders from around the world to transform scientific knowledge into real impact in the field of regenerative medicine. Attendees included researchers and experts from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Brazil, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Pakistan, Yemen, Ukraine, South Korea, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. “Thank you for the support of all parties who made APREMIC 2026 possible. I hope APREMIC 2026 will give birth to new ideas, new collaborations, and various opportunities,” he stated.
Jonny revealed that the future of regenerative medicine is not built by one institution, one country, or one scientific discipline, but can only be built collaboratively. “Regenerative medicine congresses, in layman’s terms, are now busy with stem cells, secretomes, and exosomes, right? But actually, regenerative medicine is not just that. Even ozone, hydrogen, and hyperbaric treatments are included in regenerative medicine,” he explained. Jonny described regenerative medicine as a way to repair or stimulate the growth of new tissues or organs to repair or replace damaged ones. “The use of regenerative medicine is now broader; for example, knee injuries can be treated with stem cells, burn victims can receive stem cells, and people with chronic diseases such as kidney, liver, and heart conditions can benefit from stem cells,” Jonny said.
He noted that the demand for stem cells is very high in Indonesia, with many Indonesians travelling abroad for stem cell therapy. “If we have our own home, why not do it in Indonesia? The implementation of this congress is to prove that Indonesia is capable, present, and not left behind in the field of regenerative medicine,” he said.
Executive Director of the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM), Prof Chris Paulus, said the implementation of APREMIC 2026 is very important because it demonstrates Indonesia’s capabilities in regenerative medicine. “Regenerative medicine itself is a treatment using the latest technology. Indonesia’s leadership in regenerative medicine brings various experts to Indonesia for this congress,” Chris said.
