Indonesia Partners with China to Accelerate Housing Provision

Minister of Housing and Kawasan Permukiman (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, accompanied by Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar and BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho, received a visit from China’s Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Ni Hong and his delegation, along with Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong, at Wisma Mandiri 2, Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/7/2026). The meeting discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the housing sector, particularly in providing homes for low-income communities (MBR) and middle-income communities through the exchange of experiences, utilisation of construction technology, financing support, and mutually beneficial investment development. During the meeting, Minister Ni Hong stated that housing cooperation between Indonesia and China has enormous potential for further development. In response, Minister Maruarar Sirait affirmed that Indonesia welcomes strengthened cooperation built on the principle of mutual benefit. ‘We will prepare the land, we will prepare the market data, and we will prepare the existing regulations. These three things we will prepare to be studied and discussed further with the Chinese side,’ said Maruarar. He also expressed hope that any cooperation projects developed would provide real impact on the national economy by prioritising the use of Indonesian-produced building materials and involving local MSMEs in the construction supply chain. Thus, housing sector cooperation between Indonesia and China will not only accelerate the provision of decent and affordable housing for the public but also drive domestic industrial growth, create jobs, and provide sustainable economic benefits for both countries.
