Jakarta, TopBusiness — The Indonesian government has offered 32 strategic infrastructure projects with a total value of Rp207.64 trillion, or approximately US$11.77 billion, to Japanese investors. The move forms part of the government’s efforts to accelerate infrastructure development while strengthening the flow of foreign investment into Indonesia.

As quoted from Antara on Friday (4/9/2026), the projects on offer are managed by state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and regionally owned enterprises (BUMD).

The project portfolio covers a number of strategic sectors, ranging from toll roads, railways and ports to transit-oriented development (TOD), commercial real estate and steel fabrication facilities.

The investment offer was presented at the 2026 Indonesia-Japan Transport and Infrastructure Business Forum, held in Tokyo. The forum was organised by the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tokyo together with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, bringing together Indonesian project owners with representatives from 36 Japanese companies.

Ferry Irawan, Deputy for State-Owned Enterprise Development Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, said all the projects offered had gone through a curation process and had been prepared as investment opportunities.

“All of these projects have been curated and prepared as attractive investment opportunities to support the acceleration of national infrastructure development,” Ferry said in his statement on Friday (4/9).

According to Ferry, the investment opportunities are underpinned by Indonesia’s economic fundamentals, which are considered to remain strong amid global economic uncertainty.

In the first half of 2026, the Indonesian economy grew 5.61%, whilst inflation stood at 3.34%. Over the same period, realised investment exceeded Rp1,010 trillion, or around US$57.29 billion.

Indonesia also maintains a BBB credit rating with a stable outlook from S&P Global Ratings.

From the Japanese business side, investment opportunities in Indonesia are also viewed as promising. A 2025 JETRO survey showed that 69.1% of Japanese companies operating in Indonesia expect to record operating profits.

The Indonesian government itself is targeting economic growth of 8% by 2029. To achieve this target, increasing foreign investment is one of the key instruments, particularly in creating jobs, boosting industrial capacity and accelerating technology transfer.

Japan as a Strategic Partner

Maria Renata Hutagalung, Deputy Head of the Indonesian Mission at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, said Japan remains one of Indonesia’s main partners in infrastructure development.

Cooperation between the two countries has produced support for various strategic projects in Indonesia, including the construction of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network and Patimban Port in West Java.

Through the 2026 Indonesia-Japan Transport and Infrastructure Business Forum, the government hopes the partnership can be expanded, particularly in increasing foreign direct investment (FDI).

Beyond bringing in capital, Japanese investment is expected to deliver wider benefits through improvements in human resource capacity, the strengthening of national industry, and the transfer of knowledge and technology.

By offering 32 projects worth more than Rp200 trillion, the government is now striving to make Indonesia-Japan infrastructure cooperation not merely a project financing relationship, but also part of a strategy to strengthen economic capacity and national development.
