Indonesia Now Has Two Airbus A400M Military Transport Aircraft

Airbus Defence and Space has officially delivered Indonesia’s second Airbus A400M military transport aircraft to the Indonesian National Armed Forces, Air Force (TNI AU), on Sunday, 18 May 2026.

The handover took place in a ceremony also attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

With this delivery, Airbus has completed the shipment of two A400M units that Indonesia had ordered in November 2021. Airbus said the entire delivery process was completed several months ahead of schedule.

Airbus Country Representative for Indonesia Jose Corcia said the additional fleet would allow the TNI AU to maintain a higher level of operational readiness.

‘The arrival of the second A400M unit will enable Indonesia to maintain high operational readiness, while also enhancing its preparedness and operational capability to support a range of missions,’ Corcia said.

According to Airbus, the A400M is designed to support a variety of needs such as military logistics airlift, troop transport, medical evacuation (medevac), as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR).

That capability has already been demonstrated when the first A400M unit was used to support humanitarian aid in Sumatra not long after it was delivered in November 2025.

The aircraft is also capable of operating from short runways or unpaved airstrips, making it suitable for operations in archipelagic regions like Indonesia.

For missions with a payload of around 30 tonnes, the A400M can reach up to 2,400 nautical miles, enabling the aircraft to cover various parts of Indonesia from Jakarta.

With this delivery, Indonesia now joins the ranks of global A400M operators alongside several other countries such as Malaysia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, Kazakhstan, and Luxembourg.
