Indonesia Now Has an AI Official, Here Are the New Duties
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has sworn in a number of new officials. Notably, one of the appointees will work on matters relating to AI.
That post is held by Said Mirza Pahlevi as Director of Artificial Intelligence and Ecosystems.
Besides Said, the other officials sworn in at Komdigi are Gunawan Hutagalung as Head of the Digital Talent Development Centre, Aju Widya Sari as Director of Digital Ecosystem Governance, Rina M. as Secretary of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, and Umri as Director of Posts and Broadcasting.
Ismail, Secretary-General of the Komdigi Ministry, entrusted the newly appointed officials with the responsibility of ensuring the ministry’s services continue to improve. This includes the important role of making certain that programmes and services have a direct impact on the public.
On that occasion, he also touched on the subject of AI. According to him, the ministry’s new leadership needs to strengthen the use of technology, particularly AI, to enhance public services.
AI, he explained, must become an instrument that helps the government solve the people’s problems. It can also speed up work processes and improve the accuracy of services.
“We are not building AI merely to follow a trend. We must ensure this technology delivers real benefits, whether for public services, industry, or society at large,” said Ismail, quoted on Wednesday (27/7/2026).
In addition, Ismail emphasised the importance of building a digital ecosystem involving government, industry, universities and the public. Indonesia must be able to become a country that uses technology to address various challenges, not merely a user of technology.
“Our role is to be the orchestrator that unites all stakeholders. Through collaboration, Indonesia can build a strong digital ecosystem that adds value for society,” he said.
