Indonesia Not Just a User: Komdigi Pushes for AI Technology Transfer
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that the National AI Roadmap is the government’s strategy to encourage the safe and accountable utilisation of artificial intelligence technology to boost Indonesia’s digital economy. The AI roadmap will regulate AI adoption across various sectors and establish ethical principles related to data security and accountability, serving as a tool to measure readiness for AI technology adoption so that Indonesia can achieve AI technological independence towards Sovereign AI. The government is also promoting the downstreaming and industrialisation of critical minerals to position Indonesia as a player in the global supply chain. This is important to strengthen Indonesia’s digital technology sovereignty. On the other hand, Komdigi is encouraging digital literacy and preparing the digital skills of domestic human resources to utilise and develop digital technology through the AI Talent Factory programme, targeting sectors such as agriculture, financial services, and health. Amid global economic turmoil, Komdigi also sees various challenges in AI technology development related to technology mastery, necessitating strengthened fair collaboration with developed countries.
