Indonesia, Norway Discuss Energy and Climate Action
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono discussed environmental issues, marine cultivation and the energy transition in a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and dialogue partners (AMM/PMC) in Manila on Thursday (23 July), also saw both ministers agree to promote increased cooperation in the aquaculture sector, including the development of technology and sustainable fisheries practices.
The two also discussed strengthening partnership in the field of energy transition, as well as reinforcing Indonesia’s agenda on energy and fertiliser self-sufficiency.
“In this regard, Indonesia continues to encourage cooperation with Norway in the areas of investment, innovation and technological development,” Sugiono said in a press statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
On the occasion, Sugiono also conveyed his appreciation for the Indonesia-Norway partnership in the forestry sector, which has made a tangible contribution to forest protection efforts and climate action.
Sugiono and Eide then discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation through the use of satellite imagery permits to support forest monitoring, natural resource management and sustainable development.
Foreign Minister Eide emphasised the importance of Indonesia’s role as one of the world’s lungs and a strategic partner in global efforts to tackle climate change.
In their discussions, both ministers also affirmed the importance of strengthening multilateralism and supporting reform efforts within the United Nations system.
“Indonesia continues to push for comprehensive multilateral reform to make the UN more responsive, effective and capable of addressing global challenges,” Foreign Minister Sugiono said.
