INDONESIA: Nine people were burned to death and two others suffered serious injuries when a public minivan in which they traveled hit a minibus in Sawahlunto Sijunjung regency, West Sumatra, on Friday.
The injured were taken to M. Djamil general hospital in the West Sumatra capital, Padang.
Sawahlunto Sijunjung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Suwardi said the police had arrested the bus driver, Zul, for further investigation.
The minivan, serving the route from Muaro Sijunjung to Tanjung Ampalu, was driven by Anto, also killed in the accident, which occurred at high speed. The uneven road had forced him to take the right lane in which the bus was traveling from the oncoming direction.
The collision caused a fire that quickly engulfed both vehicles. The bus passengers managed to escape from the vehicle but those in the minivan were trapped inside. -- Antara
