Indonesia Must Lead International Efforts to Save Gaza, Says MOI Chairman

Since the beginning of the ceasefire agreement in early 2026, mass killings or genocide against the people of Gaza have continued to occur daily. This was stated by the Presidium Chairman of the Majelis Ormas Islam (MOI), KH. Nazar Haris, during a Palestine Solidarity Action under the theme ‘Gaza for Israel, If We Remain Silent’ on Sunday (26/7) near the Horse Statue in Monas, Jakarta, where he initiated a movement called #TheyLiedToYou. “The point about this genocide is that we have all been lied to by the colonisers, that genocide is still ongoing even though there is a ceasefire,” said Kyai Haris. He stated that the colonisers want the administrative governance in Gaza to be handed over, but it has not been surrendered. “The colonisers want this and that, but the most horrifying thing is actually that the border crossings have not been opened and the Gaza territory is now only 33% of its original size,” he added. Furthermore, over 1.9 million Gazans, or approximately 2 million people, are living in an area that is only 32 kilometres by 3 kilometres. With the military capability possessed by Israel, those 2 million people could potentially be eliminated in about one to two hours if the colonisers so desired. “So, under these conditions, Indonesia must be at the forefront, mobilising the international community to save Gaza,” Kyai Haris asserted. He also noted that during the recently concluded 2026 World Cup, there was a global awareness and emotional atmosphere in support of Palestine. “Regardless of our views on the World Cup’s execution, the emotional support for Palestine was present there,” he said. Furthermore, with the arrest of Palestinian national Abdul Karim Raed Miqdad in Indonesia on 16 July 2026, public emotion is running exceptionally high, and this energy must be channelled positively. “Through this action, we hope this emotional situation becomes positive energy that will unite the people and the government, which has been committed from the start to supporting Palestine,” Kyai Haris concluded.
