Indonesia Mourns the Death of Private Rico in Lebanon

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has conveyed deep condolences over the death of Private Rico Pramudia, an Indonesian soldier in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission, who suffered severe injuries from an artillery explosion from an Israeli tank near the town of Adchit Al Qusayr on 29 March 2026. Since the incident, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the government, through close and intensive coordination with UNIFIL, the Lebanese government, and medical teams in Beirut, has ensured that medical treatment was carried out swiftly and optimally. “Various best medical measures have been taken, but due to the severe injuries sustained, the deceased’s life could not be saved,” the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a written statement on Friday. In addition to conveying the deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the government has also assured that the state is present to provide the best honours for the deceased for his service and sacrifice in maintaining world peace. Indonesia has once again strongly condemned the Israeli attack that caused the death of the Indonesian peacekeeping troops. Attacks on peacekeeping personnel constitute a serious violation of international law and can be categorised as war crimes. Indonesia is also continuing to urge the UN to conduct a comprehensive, transparent, and accountable investigation to uncover the facts and ensure accountability for this incident. “The safety and security of UN peacekeepers cannot be compromised. Therefore, the government continues to coordinate with the UN and troop-contributing countries to strengthen protection for all personnel in the field, including through a comprehensive evaluation of safety and security aspects as well as strengthening risk mitigation measures in the UNIFIL operational area,” the Foreign Ministry said.
