Indonesia-Mexico economic ties have significant potential for growth

Indonesian Ambassador to the United Mexican States, concurrently accredited to Belize, the Republic of El Salvador, and the Republic of Guatemala, Toferry Primanda Soetikno, stated that economic relations between the Republic of Indonesia and the United Mexican States hold immense potential for further enhancement. “Currently, the trade relationship between the two countries is valued at 4.6 billion US dollars, with Indonesia enjoying a surplus of 2.8 billion US dollars,” said Toferry Primanda Soetikno in Mexico City on Friday local time. Although this figure is relatively large, Toferry noted that the potential could be far greater. “Mexico is currently negotiating trade terms with the United States, and a decision is expected by July 2026,” said the Ambassador, who began his posting in Mexico seven months ago. Furthermore, according to Toferry, the free trade relationship between Mexico and Canada also presents an opportunity for Indonesia to market its products more widely. “Mexico can serve as a gateway for Indonesian products to countries in North America, Central America, and South America,” Toferry stated. Additionally, disruptions in global economic relations due to geopolitical situations are creating favourable conditions for Indonesian product opportunities.
