Indonesia-Mexico economic ties have significant potential for growth

Mexico City (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ambassador to the United Mexican States, covering Belize, the Republic of El Salvador, and the Republic of Guatemala, Toferry Primanda Soetikno, stated that the economic relationship between the Republic of Indonesia and the United Mexican States possesses immense potential for further enhancement.

“Currently, the value of trade between the two nations has reached US$4.6 billion, with Indonesia maintaining a surplus of US$2.8 billion,” said Toferry Primanda Soetikno in Mexico City on Friday local time.

Although these figures are relatively large, Toferry continued, the potential could be far greater.

“Mexico is currently engaged in trade negotiations with the United States, with a decision expected by July 2026,” noted the Ambassador, who began his posting in Mexico seven months ago.

Furthermore, according to Toferry, the existing free trade agreement between Mexico and Canada presents an opportunity for Indonesia to expand its product markets more widely.

“Therefore, Mexico can serve as a gateway for trading Indonesian products to countries across North, Central, and South America,” said Toferry.

In addition, the disruption of global economic relations caused by current geopolitical situations presents a favourable opportunity for Indonesian products.
