Indonesia Launches International Jetsports Grand Prix 2026, Eyes World Series
Indonesia has officially launched the Indonesia International Jetsports Grand Prix (IGP) 2026, an international-standard jetsports championship set to take place at the Jetski Academy Indonesia, Ancol, Jakarta, from 2-6 December 2026. The event is projected to be a stepping stone towards the Indonesia Jetsports World Series (IJWS) 2027, while strengthening the country’s position as a jetsports hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
The launch of IGP 2026 was announced during a Press Release & Media Gathering held by the Indonesia Jetsports Boating Association (IJBA) in Jakarta. The championship will bring together the world’s best jetski racers in an international competition. The name change to Indonesia International Jetsports Grand Prix 2026 and the adjustment of the schedule resulted from an agreement between International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) President Scott Frazier and IJBA President Syaiful Aswar. The new dates were chosen to avoid clashes with other world championship calendars.
Beyond allowing more international racers and teams to participate, the schedule change provides a longer preparation period, including for logistics shipments from various countries to Indonesia. IGP 2026 will feature eight race categories at the Ancol facility, which is considered to meet international standards to support the needs of athletes, teams, sponsors, media, and tourists during the championship.
IGP 2026 Committee Chairman Aero Aswar stated that the championship is the initial step towards hosting the Indonesia Jetsports World Series starting in 2027. “Through this championship, we aim to build a sustainable international competition calendar, bring the world’s best racers to Indonesia, and strengthen Indonesia’s position as an international jetsports centre in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.
From 2027, IJBA will present the Indonesia Jetsports World Series as an annual championship series, with the Indonesia International Jetsports Grand Prix serving as one of the main series bringing together racers from various continents. IJBA Chairman Syaiful Aswar explained that the schedule shift to December was also influenced by the postponement of the world championship in Thailand until January 2027 due to a royal mourning period. He noted that this situation actually benefited Indonesia by allowing more thorough preparation.
Syaiful assessed that Indonesia is one of the driving forces behind the development of jetsports in the Asian region. Although Thailand currently leads due to strong government support, countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, and China are also beginning to seriously develop the sport. Indonesian racer Aqsa Aswar expressed hope that IGP 2026 will be a success and bring achievements for the nation. IJBA is optimistic that the championship will have a positive impact on the tourism, hospitality, transportation, culinary, MSME, and creative economy sectors, while strengthening Indonesia’s image as a world-class sport tourism destination.
