Indonesia launches dedicated .ai.id domain for national AI ecosystem
Indonesia now has a dedicated domain for supporting the development of the national artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem through the .ai.id domain, designed as a digital identity for domestic AI industry players.
Kolaborasi Riset dan Inovasi Industri Kecerdasan Artifisial (KORIKA) said the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) is the first specifically designed as a digital identity for a nation’s AI ecosystem.
KORIKA Chairman Hammam Riza stated in a press release received on Friday that .ai.id is part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s digital sovereignty in AI while providing an identity space for local AI startups, researchers, and industry players.
“We want every Indonesian AI startup, researcher, and industry player to have a space that reflects national pride and competence in artificial intelligence,” Hammam said.
Previously, most Indonesian AI startups, developers, and research institutions used the generic .ai domain, which technically belongs to Anguilla. This situation was seen as creating a paradox, as Indonesia’s AI industry developed using another country’s digital identity.
Data from the Indonesia AI Report 2025 showed around 45% of businesses in Indonesia have adopted AI, with a 47% year-on-year growth rate, one of the fastest in Southeast Asia.
On the community side, KORIKA oversees more than 4,000 community members, with 300 officially verified active members. This ecosystem will be the first to adopt .ai.id.
The launch of .ai.id is part of Indonesia’s National AI Strategy targeting the country to become a major AI power in Southeast Asia by 2030.
Previously, on 26 May 2026, KORIKA and Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI) held a panel discussion regarding the domain launch.
PANDI representative Shidiq Purnama expressed support for the initiative as a step to strengthen Indonesia’s digital identity globally.
.ai.id domain registration will be conducted in four phases: Sunrise from 2 June to 2 July 2026 for registered trademark holders, Grandfather from 13 July to 13 August 2026 for active .id domain owners, Landrush from 24 August to 24 September 2026 for the general public with premium pricing, and General Availability from 5 October 2026 via PANDI’s official registrars.
In each phase, if multiple parties apply for the same domain name, an open auction will determine allocation to ensure fair access.
Alexander, a representative of domain.ai.id, stated they have prepared the registration process to meet high public interest in using .ai.id.
“We are ready to address user needs and ensure the .ai.id registration process runs smoothly for all potential users,” he said.
Beyond being a digital address, .ai.id is designed to signal the credibility of AI services developed and operated within Indonesia’s jurisdiction, similar to .gov.id for government institutions and .ac.id for universities.
