Indonesia Joins the Board of Peace, Muhadjir: We Are Now Trying to Fight from Within
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The head of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership’s Economic, Business, and Halal Industry division Muhadjir Effendy said that Indonesia’s accession to the Board of Peace (BoP) is one of the efforts to realise peace. He said this after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto and scholars at Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Thursday evening, 5 March 2026. ‘The strategy that he (Prabowo) has chosen is what is called the strategy from within. So after all this time we have been on the outside, we are now trying to fight from within,’ Muhadjir said on Thursday. ‘Also we remain committed to the initial goal, namely the realisation of two states that coexist peacefully, namely a sovereign Palestine and Israel,’ Muhadjir added. In addition, Prabowo’s stance to join the Board of Peace formed by US President Donald Trump is not a hasty decision either. ‘So he stressed that his involvement in BoP is not unconditional,’ Muhadjir said. Therefore, Indonesia will continue to strive to create peace for Palestine whatever the consequences. ‘Whatever the consequences, the effort to build a sovereign Palestine must be realised. And that is stated in the BoP 20-point agreement, points 19 and 20 make it clear that the BoP’s aim is indeed the coexistence of the Palestine state with Israel. I think that is our anchor,’ Muhadjir said. If not through the Board of Peace, Prabowo said to ask how Indonesia can contribute to world peace if there is no specific forum to participate. ‘Because the forum for negotiating peace in Palestine and Gaza, today that is the BoP,’ Nusron said. ‘The President’s position is, the Indonesian nation has accepted the BoP as a means, as an ikhtiar towards peace. At least let this effort be tried first. Do not let the effort and work be undertaken, then be asked to leave,’ said Golkar politician.
