Indonesia welcomes collaboration through the World Mangrove Center to advance sustainable mangrove management at the global level. Jakarta (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni stated Indonesia’s strategic role in conservation and invited the international community to strengthen global partnerships through the World Mangrove Center. According to an official statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, at the 21st United Nations Forum on Forests, conveyed that 23 percent of the world’s total mangrove area is in Indonesia, making it one of the government’s key focuses for protection as part of climate action and to ensure coastal resilience. “Indonesia welcomes collaboration through the World Mangrove Center to advance sustainable mangrove management at the global level. With control over nearly a quarter of the world’s mangroves, we want to ensure this ecosystem becomes a main pillar in climate change mitigation and coastal protection,” said the Forestry Minister in New York, United States, on Monday local time. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni explained that through the World Mangrove Center, Indonesia invites the international community to strengthen global partnerships, expand research and innovation collaboration, and encourage concrete actions for the sustainable protection and restoration of the world’s mangroves. Therefore, Indonesia is committed to leading global efforts in utilising mangrove potential to support climate action, enhance coastal resilience, and maintain biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, Dyah Murtiningsih, Director General of Watershed Management and Forest Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Forestry, stated that the World Mangrove Center, built by Indonesia, aims to establish a centre of excellence that facilitates the exchange of knowledge, research, and international funding. In the World Mangrove Center agenda, initiatives for mangrove research and restoration centres are being developed at various field observatory stations across Indonesia. “This step is expected to accelerate global mangrove restoration and provide real benefits for communities and coastal ecosystems worldwide,” said Dyah Murtiningsih.
