Indonesia is encouraging the expansion of investment cooperation with China into future technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, the digital industry, green technology, and automation, to support national industrial transformation. Speaking at the Indonesia-China Partnership Forum in Jakarta on Thursday, which was attended by representatives from 27 Chinese companies, Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun stated that the future of the economy will be heavily determined by technological development. He expressed that Indonesia wants to be an active part of this transformation, not just as a market for technology, but as a productive partner, an innovation partner, and a growth partner. He noted that China possesses strengths in technology, manufacturing, capital, and supply chains, while Indonesia offers a large domestic market, strategic resources, a productive workforce, and a strong commitment to industrial transformation. The invitation was made amidst a strong flow of Chinese investment into Indonesia in recent years. According to data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board, realised Chinese investment from 2021 to the first half of 2026 reached USD 38.34 billion and created more than 500,000 jobs in Indonesia.
