Indonesia hosts 1998 Tiger Cup
SINGAPORE (AFP): The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) confirmed yesterday the 1998 Tiger Cup would be staged in Indonesia, with the strong possibility that format changes could mean qualifying tournaments held in several locations in IndoChina.
"Indonesia will host the 1998 Tiger Cup and it will be staged in the first two weeks of September," said Paul Mony Samuel, secretary of the AFF.
The Tiger Cup, which kicked off Sunday with hosts Singapore drawing 1-1 with archrivals Malaysia, includes the 10 national teams of Southeast Asia.
The current format calls for 24 matches to be played before the finals September 15. Indonesia face Laos and Cambodia play Vietnam in yesterday's games from Group A while Tiger Cup favorites Thailand face the Philippines in Group B.
