Indonesia Has Opportunity to Become Regional Crypto Asset Liquidity Hub

Indonesia is considered to have a significant opportunity to strengthen its position as a crypto asset liquidity hub in Southeast Asia. This potential is driven by high domestic market interest and the growing interest of global blockchain projects in the country’s digital ecosystem.

Indodax’s Vice President of Business Development, James Eugene, said that massive domestic market activity provides a strong initial foundation for Indonesia to take a greater role at the regional level. He made the remarks during a panel discussion at Indonesia Blockchain Week (IDBW) 2026.

“Global projects see Indonesia as a market with great potential and strong liquidity. However, liquidity is complex because it involves many actors. Synergy is needed to develop products and a shared ecosystem,” James said in a written statement on Saturday (15/8).

Although the opportunity is wide open, James stressed that innovation cannot proceed without attention to compliance. As a crypto asset exchange, the company’s position is to find a sweet spot between market needs, innovation, and prevailing regulations.

“Consumer protection is truly one of the biggest things that must be considered. We are trying to encourage liquidity, but of course we must remain compliant with regulations,” he emphasised.

According to James, there are three main factors that must be strengthened if Indonesia wants to transform into a major crypto hub in Southeast Asia. He assessed that although Indonesia already has digital asset regulations, certainty about future policy direction will be the main foundation for foreign business players in making investment decisions.

He is optimistic that by strengthening the supply and demand sides of liquidity as well as global infrastructure, Indonesia will not only become a user market but also a centre of innovation and capital for the regional digital asset ecosystem.
