Indonesia gains 2 taekwondo golds
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian taekwondo athletes received a morale boosting win ahead of the Southeast Asian Games when they took two gold medals in an international championship in Ho Chi Minh City recently.
Veteran Anis Dewi and her junior Umi Alifah triumphed in the women's heavyweight and women's bantamweight respectively to lead Indonesia to a fourth-place finish in the annual event which fielded taekwondo athletes from nine countries, including the sport's powerhouse South Korea.
"We are satisfied with the fair outcome since we pit many junior athletes against more experienced rivals," said Daniel Makes, training director of the Indonesian Taekwondo. Indonesia also added three silvers and five bronzes to its medal collection in the championships. (amd)
