Indonesia-France High-Level Business Council Launched, Securing Rp62.5 Trillion in Deals
Economic cooperation between Indonesia and France has entered a new phase with the launch of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council. The high-level business forum is expected to be a key driver for enhancing investment, trade, and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
Minister of Investment and Hilirisasi/Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, welcomed the establishment of the business council, launched in Paris on Thursday, 28 May 2026, during President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to France. The forum’s launch was also witnessed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
‘The establishment of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council is a significant milestone in strengthening the economic partnership between the two nations. This forum is not only a platform for business dialogue but also a driving force to promote investment, trade, and strategic cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for both countries,’ said Rosan in a statement from Jakarta on Friday, 29 May 2026.
Strategic Business Platform
The business council brings together 30 leading company and industry leaders from Indonesia and France, with a combined market capitalisation of $1.3 trillion.
The forum is co-chaired by Antoine de Saint-Affrique and Anindya Bakrie.
At its inaugural launch, the forum secured four new commercial agreements worth $3.5 billion, approximately Rp62.5 trillion, spanning energy security, trade, and defence sectors.
‘French business confidence in Indonesia continues to grow. The agreements reached demonstrate that Indonesia is viewed as a strategic partner with strong long-term growth prospects and an increasingly competitive investment climate,’ Rosan said.
Overseeing Investment Implementation
In addition to driving new investments, Rosan explained that the business council will also oversee the implementation of various memoranda of understanding (MoUs) agreed upon by both nations.
During President Macron’s visit to Indonesia in May 2025, 27 MoUs were signed with a value exceeding $11 billion.
‘Equally important is ensuring all commitments are realised. Therefore, this forum will serve as a mechanism to identify obstacles, expedite the resolution of challenges, and ensure investments proceed optimally,’ he added.
Tripling Bilateral Trade Target
The France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council has set a target to triple bilateral trade value by 2035.
With support from both governments, Indonesia’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and MEDEF International will continue to strengthen the Indonesia-France economic corridor through collaboration in various strategic sectors.
‘We are optimistic that Indonesia and France’s economic relations will grow stronger. Government and business collaboration is key to creating sustainable growth, generating jobs, and enhancing both nations’ competitiveness amid global economic dynamics,’ Rosan concluded.
The launch of this high-level business council is expected to act as a new catalyst for increased French investment in Indonesia while supporting industrial downstreaming and strengthening national economic resilience.
