Indonesia eyes export gains amid supply disruptions

He noted that instability in the Middle East could disrupt goods supply from certain countries, creating gaps in global markets.

“When geopolitical crises occur, they usually change the trade map. When supply chains are disrupted, markets are left open because suppliers are constrained,” Santoso said.

Such conditions could allow Indonesia to fill those gaps in several export destinations, he added.

The government is mapping countries relatively unaffected by geopolitical conflicts as potential new export markets to help domestic businesses maintain expansion despite global trade disruptions.

Santoso said the Trade Ministry would also coordinate with exporters to identify technical challenges they face.

“We will meet exporters to find out where the problems lie,” he said.

He pointed to Southeast Asian and African countries as potential alternative markets and said the government would intensify business-matching programs to connect Indonesian exporters with buyers in those regions.
