Indonesia Exports Urea to Australia, Prabowo Receives Appreciation from PM Albanese
President Prabowo Subianto received a phone call from Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday afternoon (21/4/2026). During the communication, PM Albanese conveyed his appreciation for Indonesia’s move to begin exporting urea fertiliser to Australia, amounting to 250,000 tonnes in the initial phase.
“PM Albanese conveyed his appreciation for the President’s approval regarding the export of Indonesian urea fertiliser to Australia, amounting to 250,000 tonnes in the first phase,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement.
In addition to Australia, Indonesia is also expanding the reach of its fertiliser export markets by exploring shipments to several other countries as part of strengthening Indonesia’s role in the global supply chain. The total export commitments amount to around one million tonnes.
“Going forward, some urea fertiliser will also be exported to India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Brazil, with total export commitments reaching approximately one million tonnes,” said the Cabinet Secretary.
On the other hand, the government emphasised that the export policy is being implemented in a measured manner while maintaining a balance in domestic supply, in line with the adequate national production capacity. Currently, the national urea production exceeds domestic needs.
“According to data from the Minister of Agriculture, the total national urea production is 7.8 million tonnes, while domestic needs are around 6.3 million tonnes,” wrote the Cabinet Secretary.
With this approach, exports not only provide added value to the national economy but also ensure the availability of fertiliser for farmers’ needs domestically.
“This step is expected to maintain domestic supply resilience while strengthening Indonesia’s contribution to the global market,” said the Cabinet Secretary.
