Indonesia expects arrival of second A400M aircraft
Head of the Defense Information Bureau Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait said in Jakarta on Wednesday the aircraft will become the Air Force’s second A400M after the first unit arrived on November 3, 2025.
It is currently en route from Seville, Spain, to Indonesia.
Rico said the arrival of the second aircraft will strengthen the Air Force’s capability in safeguarding Indonesia’s air territory.
The contract to purchase two A400M aircraft was signed by President Prabowo Subianto while serving as defense minister in 2021, on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow.
At the same event, the ministry also signed a letter of intent to procure four additional A400M aircraft.
The A400M is a heavy transport aircraft capable of carrying cargo, conducting aerial refueling, and supporting humanitarian and combat operations.
The aircraft was first showcased in Indonesia in 2017, and has previously been used for humanitarian missions in Lombok and Palu following major disasters in 2018.
Indonesia is the 10th country to operate the A400M. In Asia, the aircraft is also used by Malaysia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
