Indonesia Expands Visa-Free List to Include Turkey, Brazil, and Kazakhstan
The government has expanded the list of countries granted visa-free access to Indonesia. This addition follows the issuance of a regulation by the Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto. The policy is stipulated in Minister of Immigration and Corrections Regulation Number 10 of 2026 concerning the Addition of the List of Countries, Special Administrative Region Governments of a Country, and Certain Entities Granted Visa-Free Visits. The regulation officially came into effect on 9 July 2026. Through this regulation, the government added the Republic of Turkey, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Peru, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Macau Special Administrative Region (People’s Republic of China), and the Republic of Belarus as countries/regions whose citizens can enjoy visa-free facilities for visits to Indonesia. Along with the enactment of this ministerial regulation, Minister of Immigration and Corrections Regulation Number 10 of 2025 is officially revoked and declared invalid. Currently, Indonesian passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 88 countries worldwide. This addition is expected to increase foreign tourist visits to Indonesia while strengthening the country’s position on the global economic map. Minister Agus Andrianto emphasised that this decision was not taken unilaterally. The policy is described as a strategic step to boost the tourism sector, investment, and bilateral relations, while still being grounded in the principles of prudence and selectivity. “The addition of this country list is the result of an in-depth evaluation referring to Presidential Regulation Number 95 of 2024 concerning Visa-Free Visits. We strictly consider the principle of reciprocity, national security, the impact on the tourism sector, economic and investment potential, as well as other strategic aspects determined by the President,” said Agus. Agus stressed that Indonesia never provides visa-free facilities without due consideration. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Fadjroel Rachman, enthusiastically welcomed the decision, viewing it as a milestone in the relationship between the two countries. “I believe this visa-free policy will boost tourism, trade, and investment between the two richest and largest countries in Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Previously, Kazakhstan had already issued visa-free access for Indonesian citizens to Kazakhstan,” he said. Fadjroel also outlined several other diplomatic achievements complementing the Indonesia-Kazakhstan strategic partnership. He estimated that the combination of agreements made between Indonesia and Kazakhstan would increase bilateral trade between the two countries to around USD 2 billion within the next 3-5 years. “Let all citizens of Kazakhstan visit Indonesia for tourism, trade, investment, or study. Likewise, for all Indonesian citizens, let us visit Kazakhstan to strengthen our brotherhood,” said Fadjroel.
