RRI.CO.ID, Bali - Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, has called for a more balanced distribution of sustainable tourism investment so that it is not concentrated solely in Bali, but also reaches promising destinations across Indonesia.
Speaking at the Investor Roundtable 2026 held at Piasan Nusa Dua Restaurant on Friday, May 29, 2026, Widiyanti noted that Indonesia recorded 15.39 million international tourist arrivals, with nearly 7 million visits concentrated in Bali.
“This figure reflects growing international confidence in Indonesia as both a tourism destination and an investment destination, while Bali remains the heart of national tourism growth,” the Minister said.
At the same time, the high concentration of investment in Bali’s key tourism areas—including Canggu, Seminyak, Uluwatu, and Ubud—highlights the need for a more balanced investment strategy so that tourism’s economic benefits can be shared more broadly across the country.
“Indonesia is not just Bali. We have many leading destinations with enormous tourism and investment potential that are still waiting to be developed responsibly and sustainably,” she said.
As a concrete step, the Ministry of Tourism is prioritizing the development of 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations as new growth centers. These destinations are expected to expand the distribution of economic benefits, create jobs, and improve community welfare in various regions.
The initiative aligns with evolving global tourism trends that increasingly emphasize sustainability, wellness tourism, and authentic, meaningful travel experiences.
Therefore, the Minister encouraged investors to explore growing opportunities in Indonesia’s leading destinations beyond Bali in order to build a more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable tourism industry.
Through the Investor Roundtable forum, the Ministry is also actively gathering input from investors, local governments, industry associations, and tourism businesses regarding on-the-ground challenges and the support needed to strengthen the tourism investment climate.
These recommendations will play an important role in shaping future tourism investment policies that are greener, more inclusive, competitive, and evenly distributed.
Widiyanti also announced plans to develop an Application Programming Interface (API)-based verification system to ensure that all accommodations marketed through digital platforms possess the required business licenses. The initiative is part of efforts to improve governance and quality standards within the tourism accommodation ecosystem, particularly in Bali.
Meanwhile, Acting Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, Rizki Handayani, said the strategic forum brought together representatives from the government, the Bali Provincial Government, tourism associations, investors, and tourism businesses in an open and constructive dialogue.
According to him, the forum serves as a platform to assess current industry dynamics, identify challenges faced by businesses, and explore opportunities for expanding investment into emerging destinations across Indonesia.
As a result, the experiences and insights of Bali’s tourism industry stakeholders are considered highly valuable references for the development of Indonesia’s priority tourism destinations.
“We view this input as extremely valuable, not only for strengthening Bali’s tourism investment ecosystem but also as an important lesson for developing the 10 Priority Tourism Destinations and other Regenerative Tourism Destinations,” Rizki said.
